1990's - Encouraging education and professional skills in the regions

Educational bursaries commenced in 1992, to support regional students desiring a secondary school and university education. Within the following two decades, the CWA of WA scholarship program expanded to include annual post-graduate scholarships for medical, dental and nursing students, with an interest to serve in rural areas. All educational bursaries are granted from the generosity of community fundraising by all branches across the state.

CWA of WA launched Youth Leadership courses for girls and boys, (later re-named Young Leaders Weekend). The course aimed to develop friends, confidence, and a sense of resilience within the next generation.  The course importantly covered skills of teamwork, over-coming challenges and leadership.

The CWA Wool Day, launched in April 1992, became of regular promotion during the early 1990’s.

The aim was to bring country to the city, in support of the National Wool Day announcement from the Federal Minister of Primary Industries.  CWA partnered with other rural-based groups, such as Rural Youth, Elders, Wesfarmers, Australian Wool Corporation, Pastoralists' and Graziers', West Australian Farmers Federation, and the Royal Agricultural Society. Forrest Place and the Hay Street Mall became a hive of industry with wool spinners, knitters, shearers, wool classers, sheep and sheep dogs, cottage crafts and fashion parades. The annual event was praised for being practical, inspiring, educational and entertaining!
